Domain & Web Hosting Tips

If you are planning a website, there are a few important points you should keep in mind. The following tips will help you get started securely and professionally.

1. Choosing a Domain Name

A good domain name is short, memorable and easy to spell. Avoid complicated combinations of hyphens and choose a domain extension that fits your project (.de, .com, .net, …).

2. Legal Requirements

Every website must include a legally valid imprint (legal notice). You should also provide a privacy policy. If you offer products or services, a right of withdrawal statement is required as well.

3. Website Security

Ensure that your website uses a valid SSL certificate (https://), apply regular software updates, and choose secure passwords. These measures are essential to protect your website from attacks.

4. User-Friendliness

Clear navigation, a well-structured layout, and fast loading times are crucial for your website’s success. Use images and text in a balanced and purposeful way.

5. Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Use clean, descriptive URLs, meaningful page titles, and meta descriptions. Provide high-quality content — this will help your website rank better on Google and other search engines.

6. Data Backup & Recovery

A website is only as safe as its most recent backup. Errors, hacking attempts, or technical issues can occur at any time, making regular backups essential.

Manual Backups:

  • You can easily download your files via the Plesk File Manager and store them locally.
  • Databases can be backed up in the Plesk panel using “Export Dump”.

Email Backup:

  • POP3: Emails are downloaded directly to your hard drive and stored locally.
  • IMAP: If you use Thunderbird, you can select folders for offline storage under Properties → Synchronisation.
  • External tools:
MailStore Home (free) for comprehensive email archiving.
    MozBackup (backup of Thunderbird/Firefox profiles).

    Backup Service Hosting
    (Optional Add-On Service)

We offer a professional, optional backup service that can be added to any of our hosting plans.
This service is not included in the standard hosting package and can be purchased separately through beach-webspace.eu

The backup service enhances your Plesk account with a fully automated backup system that stores all data exclusively in the external toptip Cloud Backup.

    Why Backups Are Stored Externally

Backups are intentionally not stored inside your hosting account.
    This provides several key advantages:

    • Your hosting storage remains fully available for your website, emails and data — backups do not consume space in your account.

    • Increased reliability by storing backups on an independent backup system

    • Protection against data loss caused by hardware failures, software issues or accidental deletion

    • Ideal for private users who do not operate their own backup infrastructure

You benefit from having your data securely stored outside the hosting server, always available for recovery.

    What Is Backed Up

    The backup service includes:

    • all files and directories of your webspace

    • all databases

    • all email mailboxes and their contents

    • full restoration of individual components or the entire hosting account

    Types of Backups

    Weekly Full Backup

A complete image of your entire hosting environment.

    Daily Incremental Backups

Only the changes since the previous backup are saved — efficient, fast and storage-friendly.

Storage in the toptip Cloud Backup

All backups are stored exclusively in the external toptip Cloud Backup system:

    • separate, redundant storage infrastructure

    • physically and technically independent from your hosting server

    • backups remain available even in the event of a server failure

This ensures you always have access to a secure and independent copy of your data.

    Automatic Retention & Deletion

The retention period can be defined individually (e.g., 14, 30 or 60 days).
Older backups are automatically deleted once they exceed the retention period.
The system manages storage and retention entirely on its own.

    User-Controlled Restore Options

With the backup service enabled, you can restore data directly in Plesk at any time:

    • restore individual files

    • restore complete folders or domains

    • restore databases to a previous state

We are also happy to perform restorations for you upon request — at no additional cost.

    Setup Service Included

When you subscribe to the backup service, we provide:

    • full configuration within Plesk

    • setup of full and incremental backups

    • connection to the external toptip Cloud Backup

    • definition and implementation of the retention strategy

    • automatic monitoring by Plesk:
If a backup fails, Plesk automatically sends an email notification.
This ensures you always know whether your scheduled backups were completed successfully.

You receive a professional, fully automated backup system — without any effort on your part.

    ❗ Important Note

The backup service is not included in the standard hosting plan and is offered as a separately chargeable add-on through beach-webspace.eu
